Streets Dept Excursions are guided tours of Philly's art and public space! Each month we lead curated walks around the "mural capital of the world." While the focus and location of each month's Excursion is always different, overall we explore three main themes: 1) public/street art, 2) public space/architecture, and 3) independent art spaces.

OUR FEBRUARY 2023 EXCURSION:

For our February Excursion we'll be visiting the studios of some of Philadelphia's most beloved contemporary artists. A mix of painters, illustrators, ceramicists, mosaic artists, muralists, and street artists, the five studios and seven artists that we'll be meeting will offer us a peek inside an array of artforms and practices. You've seen their artworks in galleries and on the streets of Philadelphia. Now you get to meet them and see how they work!

And conveniently for a tour like this, all these incredible artists work out of South Philly's Bok Building. (Convenient because that allows us to meet and see the studios of these talented artists all within our hour and a half tour!) We're so excited to take you into the studios of:

YOUR TOUR GUIDES:

Streets Dept Excursions are led by Conrad Benner and Eric Dale. Born and raised in Fishtown, Conrad is the founder of StreetsDept.com, which has been documenting and celebrating Philly's art world since January 2011. Eric Dale is an independent creator who joined Streets Dept in 2017 and contributes photos, articles, and artist interviews to the blog.

TOUR NOTES:

  1. February's tour will start and end at the Bok Building at 1901 S. 9th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19148 (Google Pin): meet us at the big blocks that spell out "BOK" right at that address!
  2. Tours include roughly one and a half hours of walking and standing. The building is wheelchair accessible and has an elevator.
  3. All tours are rain or shine, so bring an umbrella just in case–but this tour is almost entirely indoors.
  4. Tours are ticketed and tickets/names will be checked at the start of each tour; you can bring a digital or printed copy of your ticket, or just check-in with the ticket purchaser's name!
  5. MASKS REQUIRED ON THIS EXCURSION! Because this Excursion takes place nearly entirely indoors, we ask that you bring and wear a mask to ensure the safety of your fellow attendees and our guests!

Can't wait to see y'all! #StreetsDeptExcursions
