ABOUT ABOUT

Streets Dept Excursions are guided tours of Philly's art and public space! Each month we lead curated walks around the "mural capital of the world." While the focus and location of each month's Excursion is always different, overall we explore three main themes: 1) public/street art, 2) public space/architecture, and 3) independent art spaces.

OUR APRIL 2024 EXCURSION / WHAT YOU'LL SEE:

For our now annual green spaces tour in honor of Earth Day, Streets Dept is excited to organize our very first tour of Bartram's Garden! Bartram's is many things. This public park spans nearly 50 acres in Southwest Philadelphia, offering peace, rest, and connection. It’s a home for horticulture, the first nationally landmarked landscape, and the oldest surviving botanic garden in North America. It is Sankofa Community Farm, an ancient riverfront, a conversation on food sovereignty, high school internship programs, and a place of untold histories. And by 2026, Bartram's will also be home to one of the area's most anticipated, floating (yes, floating!) public art projects. We'll explore it all!

YOUR TOUR GUIDE:

This Streets Dept Excursion will be led by Streets Dept's Lead Contributor, Eric Dale. Eric is an independent creator who joined Streets Dept in 2017 and contributes photos, articles, and artist interviews to the blog.

IMPORTANT TOUR NOTES:

  • All Excursions are rain or shine–so it never hurts to bring an umbrella!
  • Please note that due to the geography of Bartram's Garden, this tour will include some walking over uneven terrain, including grass and areas with rocks/pebbles.
  • This tour will start and end at 5400 Lindbergh Blvd.
  • Tours are ticketed and tickets/names will be checked at the start of each tour; you can bring a digital or printed copy of your ticket, or just check-in with the ticket purchaser's name!

Can't wait to see y'all! #StreetsDeptExcursions
